and so it begins... 2014
I love January. It's that time of year when you get to reinvent yourself, declutter your house and life, and set new goals. New Year's Resolutions are still fresh and full of potential. All the holiday decorations have been stored, the house looks stark and clean in comparison. I find that fresh scrubbed feeling inspiring. January will be the month to get those storage spaces like the pantry organized.
However, getting it clean is one thing... keeping it clean is quite another, especially when you have a family! That's why organization is so important. Having a functional space lends itself to keeping your things and life under control.
I really love the shallow storage in these pantries. Makes for a quick check to see if anything needs restocking.
The pull out drawers in this pantry are interesting although I do wonder how high up these drawers go. Would you be able to see in those top drawers without a step ladder? I do think all the vertical storage for baking pans, cleaning supplies, and cutting boards is a great addition as well.
This doesn't have the high end furniture look of some of our other inspiration pantries, but how uber practical would this be? Being able to adjust the height on all those shelves is such a great feature. And how about that 'floor to ceiling' carousel! Does anyone else have kids who would take a ride on this? You'd find them all curled up by the Milky Bones with a supportive sibling spinning them.
Kudos on the functionality of this. You would never know that behind those sleek cabinet doors there was so much going on.
I love pantries that don't necessarily 'feel' like a storage closet. I love the natural light and the chair that doubles as a foot stool.... hmmm, maybe it triples as the time-out chair as well?
The next step is to figure out what you're going to keep. If you haven't gone through your pantry in a while chances are there are lots of items that need to be tossed. Measure your shelves. Get an idea of what you need and the space you have before you go shopping. Do this first and it will save you time and money.
I love these Fido italian canning jars I found at Home Goods. They're so pretty to look at!
These wall hooks are from World Market. I'm thinking they would be cute to hang aprons in a pantry.
There are lots of storage tools. Baskets in all on style help unify a space and look really nice together. Clear glass jars not only look great, but help keep items fresh.
If you have a corner in your pantry, use a turntable like the one above for all those oddballs like toothpicks, birthday candles, and leftover chopsticks from takeout.
Add clear acrylic magazine holders to your pantry and you have a place to store recipes, owners manuals for small appliances stored in your pantry, and issues of cooking magazines that you'd like to have handy without creating a mess of stacked papers.
my own before and after...
It was exhausting, but I finally got my pantry under control, oh, and changed out a lightbulb!
TGID- Thank God It's Done!
